Discussion on the temperature resistance range of EVA hot melt adhesive for furniture edge banding and its adaptability to different use environments

It should be pointed out that EVA hot melt adhesives are thermoplastic materials, and the characteristics of their bonding properties that vary with temperature are their inherent properties
Furniture products will experience different ambient temperature changes during use, from the low temperature in winter in the north to the high temperature in summer in the south, which puts forward basic requirements for the temperature resistance of EVA hot melt adhesives for edge banding. The temperature resistance of EVA hot melt adhesive mainly depends on the glass transition temperature and crystallization characteristics of its base resin. The softening point of conventional EVA edge banding glue is usually between 80℃ and 100℃, which means that the adhesive layer begins to soften above this temperature, and the bonding strength decreases significantly. In a low temperature environment, the EVA adhesive layer will gradually harden and become brittle. When the temperature is lower than its brittleness temperature, brittle cracking may occur when it is impacted or bent. Therefore, according to the climatic characteristics of different use areas, it is essential to choose the appropriate temperature-resistant EVA edge banding glue.
In conventional indoor furniture application scenarios, the ambient temperature is relatively mild and stable, and ordinary EVA hot melt adhesives can fully meet the requirements of long-term use.For example, panel furniture in offices, bedrooms, living rooms and other places has a limited range of temperature fluctuations all year round, and the edge banding parts will not withstand extreme temperature tests. However, for furniture that may be close to the radiator, exposed to direct sunlight, or in an insufficiently temperature-controlled environment, you need to consider choosing EVA rubber with a higher temperature resistance level. Some EVA edge banding adhesives that have been specially formulated can increase the softening point to a higher range by increasing the crystallinity of the resin or adding heat-resistant modified ingredients, and enhance the creep resistance in a warm environment.
It should be pointed out that EVA hot melt adhesives are thermoplastic materials, and the characteristics of their bonding properties that vary with temperature are their inherent properties. In the furniture design stage, the temperature resistance range of the edge banding glue selected should be fully understood, and ordinary EVA glue types should be avoided in situations where extreme temperatures may occur. For special applications such as kitchen stoves and outdoor furniture, it is necessary to evaluate whether EVA hot melt adhesives are suitable or consider other adhesive types. When furniture companies formulate edge banding process standards, they usually clarify the technical specifications for glue used in different seasons and regions according to the product flow direction and sales area, so as to ensure that the factory furniture maintains reliable edge banding quality in the use environment.Regular temperature resistance cycle testing of finished furniture is also an effective means to verify the adaptability of EVA edge banding glue.
