The adjustment of the construction process of PUR hot melt adhesive in the low temperature environment in winter and its guarantee measures for the quality of edge banding

During winter construction, the temperature of the plates and edge banding strips also needs special attention. The temperature of the material directly accessed from the outdoor or warehouse may be much lower than the temperature of the workshop.
The low-temperature and dry climatic conditions in winter bring special challenges to the construction and curing process of PUR hot melt adhesives, and furniture companies need to take targeted process adjustment measures to ensure the quality of edge banding. In a low temperature environment, the cooling speed of PUR glue after gluing is accelerated, and the opening time is shortened accordingly. This may cause the glue to be excessively cooled before pressing, and the slotted surface and edge banding surface of the plate cannot be fully wetted, affecting the formation of interfacial bonding. In view of this problem, the gluing temperature can be appropriately increased to the upper limit of the process range, or the operating speed of the edge banding machine can be slightly reduced as the equipment allows, providing a fuller time window for glue infiltration and compression.
Environmental humidity is another key factor affecting the crosslinking reaction of PUR glue. The air is dry in winter and the relative humidity is often low, which may significantly slow down the moisture curing reaction rate of PUR glue and extend the time required to reach the final strength. This not only affects the arrangement of subsequent processes, but may also lead to insufficient strength of the product in the early stages of use.Improvement measures include the use of industrial humidifiers in the edge banding workshop to appropriately increase the environmental humidity, or when the environmental conditions cannot be changed, the selection of highly reactive PUR rubber species, which can still maintain a fast crosslinking speed under low humidity conditions. The sheet itself may become dry due to heating in winter, and the surface moisture content is low. If necessary, surface activation treatment or a more adaptable primer can be used.
During winter construction, the temperature of the plates and edge banding strips also needs special attention. The temperature of the material directly accessed from the outdoor or warehouse may be much lower than the temperature of the workshop. The contact of the cold material with the hot glue may cause the glue to cool down suddenly, affecting the bonding effect. It is recommended to move the material into the workshop in advance and place it for a period of time so that its temperature is close to the ambient temperature before it is put into use.For continuous production, thermal insulation measures in the temporary storage area of materials are equally important.Through systematic analysis and targeted adjustments of all aspects of winter construction, PUR hot melt adhesives can maintain stable edge banding quality even in the cold season, meeting the continuity of furniture production and product reliability requirements. The accumulation of experience and the continuous tracking of process data help enterprises establish standardized operating specifications that adapt to seasonal changes.
