Comparison of the comprehensive performance of PUR hot melt adhesive and EVA hot melt adhesive in the application of furniture edge banding and the basis for selection decision-making

Furniture companies usually establish standardized glue specifications based on product series positioning, clarify the glue types and process requirements that should be used for different types and grades of products, and achieve a balance between quality and cost.
When furniture companies choose edge banding adhesives, they often face the trade-off between PUR hot melt adhesives and EVA hot melt adhesives. There are significant differences in the performance characteristics and cost structure of the two, and reasonable choices need to be made according to product positioning and use requirements. From the point of view of bonding strength, the crosslinked structure formed after the PUR hot melt adhesive is completely cured gives it higher cohesion strength and interfacial adhesion. For furniture parts that withstand large external forces or frequent shocks, PUR glue can provide a more reliable connection.Although the bonding strength of EVA hot melt adhesive can meet the requirements of most conventional furniture, there may be limitations under extreme stress conditions. In terms of temperature resistance, the thermosetting characteristics of PUR glue make it stable in high temperature environments, while EVA glue will experience a decrease in strength when the temperature is close to its softening point.
Water resistance and moisture resistance are one of the most obvious areas where the two types of glue species differ. The crosslinking network after PUR glue is cured has good resistance to water molecules, and its performance decays slowly after long-term exposure to humid environments. As a thermoplastic material, EVA glue may undergo hydrolysis or interface deterioration during repeated moisture absorption and drying, which limits its application in humid environments. Therefore, PUR glue is a more reliable choice for kitchens, bathrooms, and furniture products that may be damp.In terms of cost, EVA hot melt adhesive has obvious advantages. Its raw material cost is low, production efficiency is high, equipment investment is low, and the comprehensive application cost is much lower than that of PUR adhesive. For mass-produced conventional panel furniture, the economy of EVA glue is the basis for its wide application.
The selection decision should be based on the final use environment and quality requirements of the product.Ordinary bedroom and living room furniture, the use environment is gentle and controllable, EVA hot melt adhesive can fully meet the requirements, and the use of EVA adhesive can ensure quality while controlling costs. For high-end custom furniture, kitchen cabinets, bathroom cabinets and other products that have higher requirements for durability and environmental adaptability, the excellent performance of PUR hot melt adhesive can improve the quality and service life of the product, and its higher cost can be compensated by the product premium.Furniture companies usually establish standardized glue specifications based on product series positioning, clarify the glue types and process requirements that should be used for different types and grades of products, and achieve a balance between quality and cost.
